        PRINCE ALBERT                                      QUEEN VICTORIA
Isambard Kingdom Brunel was  held in high Esteem by his fellow engineers and by the general public who flocked to witness the great constrction projects, grand opernings and ships launches. It wasn't long before he came  to the attention of HRH Princ Albert to Britain from Germany to marry Queen Victoria in 1840. Hist first meeting with Brunel would have been when he was invited to launch the SS Great Braitain on 19th JULY 1843. That would have been a memoriable Day for Prince Albert who had a great interest in Engineering annd Science as at the time the SS GREAT Britain, as well as being the largest Ship in the WORLD, was also the most techonologically Advanced. The Great Exhibition of 1891 at Crystal Palace also brought the two men together. Brunel was a member of its Building Committee and Prince Albert took a keen interest in all aspects of the exhibition. The Prince was also to give Brunel permission to name his major railway Bridge at Saltagh, the Royal Albert Bridge (Constructed 1892 -1859)

Queen Victoria an Prince Albert purchased Bolmoral Estate in 1848 and they set about making numberous improvement. It was natural enough therefore for the Prince to turn to Brunel to Design a new Bridge over the RIver DEE. This would replace the exisiting rather shaky suspension bridge over the river downstream, which had served as access to Balmoral since 1834 (Old Balmoral Bridge)
