HOUSE NO.10 ...... KG. ANGGEREK DESA

HAUNTED  House  ?????

Of coz .... NOT...... a little short HISTORY to tell......

Once U pass through a road... a short cut from Serusop Shopping Area...

left turn... from BERAKAS Secondary School ...just d' opposite of Berakas Police Station.

Another junction...Kampong PANCHA Delima.... but a school...Anggerek Desa Primary School on Ur right..., then after a football field.....another junction to Anggerek Hospital...converted clinic for out patients....  formely government housing quarters.... n soon on Ur left.. a road stretching clearly far straight to end up far higher land...a borderline of another village.....Kampong Orang Kaya Besar Imas........... this is Jalan Anggerek Desa...

But if U go straight to end up a left turn junction...Orchid Garden Hotel  ...n Anggerek Apartment just front of U.... n  nnn  STADIUM......this is Jalan Kolan Bernang Anggerek Desa...

House No. 8...is on d' right of Jalan Anggerek Desa... an orange....now looked cream in colour.

No.10 is just next house... an   oooOLD house... ...nnn    ... this is d' STORYyyy.......

No. 8 is a replacement for d' old house.....!!!!.....

Lucky enough ...to those to occupy.... U need NOT  "a drop of sweat"... n...no need to spend a cent... too....          a house is there...ready.. ????





Believe it or not.... d' house only cost 7K Brunei.......

my father was a government employer...n ..was able to get d' government housing loan at that time...

1958 was a time not that easy economic year...... value of money were little but.. hard to find...

 I heard from d' early settlers...

The house was d' first concrete pillars...WOW....

Unlike today...the road...not to mention.... just a jungle road track...meaning.....earth clearing road.... cars.. of coz... hard to find one.....???

So....d' workers had to carry the housing materials from d'main road  .... existing Jalan Berakas, d' entrance was just opposite d' road to Perpindahan Berakas or Berakas International School......about half mile...or 800 m.

Looking at d'picture... tall trees were just behind d' house...... it was built without proper things like......  no electricity..... no pipes ..water... no sewage.....no...no..no...  good enough camping huts nowadays...

Brunei was 50 years behind Singapore at that time.... !!!!!!



Latter years..... more people were coming in ...n...built houses.

My father was d' early people chosed to move in land....as d' government offered d' citizens free lands with 2 acres of land to each family...

Berakas was third phase of resettling... First was Bunut Area,  then..Burong Pinggai AREA  n later on here..... at that time...no kampong name...except there were early settler people in Pulaie Area doing paddy planting and as rubber tappers... coz this area surrounded by rubber trees...Berakas Estate was just near to Kampong Burong Pinggai.



Years passed by......each house built at a distance coz d' land was meant for planting....so my father had planted RAMBUTANs.....  so many ...lol...

Every year..... more rambutans... just gave away... some were sold cheap...!!!!

D' family's population increasing..... brothers n sisters....some were born here....



D' house was not changed for at least 3 decades......  but.. more mouths to be feeded...  needed more rooms too.

Grandma showed how to clean the steps in times of Raya...n... so..



More trees were chopped downed... n more lands were cleared for houses.

84.. Brunei got d' sovereignty...n so independance... appointed Ministers had done few good jobs..

But d' disasters had done worst...when RAINING...

It was not long time ago...n d' proof was there  n here are real pictures... Minister of Development implemented few things to better the lifes of these areas..... manmade rivers were dragged to give way water from d' highlands to flow to rivers nearby... buttt.. we ve to sacrifice too...more lost land ....to front n behind big drains...



D' house remained...but few rooms were added...

n so...two stories needed at last...

It was only in late 80s every body crampped to stay together.....but later diminishing interest as few getting married n some got their own place to stay...better...!!!!

The youngest of d' family inherited to own this house.... so for a while rented out to recover a few more dollars before this memorial home's plot of land would be demolished.... n... give way for another home in a very near future..........

House No.8....when 1st occupied... late 98..was full...of joys.... 

now sadly...... old people had gone...... passed away....n so...

Too much to say.....happier times.......sad........ confused...   ??????
